Through initiatives such as social enterprise Community Shop, recycling education and engagement with young people, and our work with charities, we extend our impact beyond our operations, delivering meaningful, lasting social value for people and places.
Making the day-to-day affordable with Community Shop
Community Shop is our award-winning social enterprise, tackling the root causes of food insecurity across the UK. Our 17 Community Shops, located in some of the most deprived areas of the UK, provide its members with vital access to deeply discounted food as well as life-changing support, learning and development programmes.
Community Store
Not-for-profit stores that provide members with an affordable place to shop under the same roof as a Community Hub and Community Kitchen.
Community Hub
Provides community connection and dedicated holistic support including a range of programmes covering mental health and wellbeing, physical health, financial resilience and routes back into training and employment.
Community Kitchen
Enabling people to connect with others and learn through food. As well as providing home-cooked meals for the community, with kids eating free every day, it includes a place for learning with cook clubs and skills sessions led by a Chef Educator.

Community Shop, is our award-winning social enterprise, providing a hand-up to those in need and tackling the root causes of food insecurity across the UK.
Company Shop is our membership based surplus supermarket with 13 stores open to those working in FMCG manufacturing and logistics, as well as emergency and frontline services. It offers members a place to buy perfectly good products from well-known brands at discounted prices.

Educational activities for young people
We’re on a mission to change the way young people think about waste. Our local teams deliver school and university visits designed to inspire the next generation to waste less and recycle more. This also provides an opportunity to showcase careers in the waste and recycling sector, supporting future skills development. In 2025/26, we visited 1,200 schools and reached over 44,000 young people, delivering engaging workshops and fun Wasteater-themed activities, with a bold ambition to reach a further 55,000 young people by March 2027.

Our charitable work
We support a range of local and national charities, community and not-for-profit organisations through charitable donations, fundraising and volunteering initiatives. We are proud to partner with WasteAid, a UK-based charity implementing waste management and recycling programmes that reduce climate emissions, build a circular economy and create livelihood opportunities for people in vulnerable communities around the world.

Biffa Award
Biffa Award is an environment fund which has directly benefitted 265,000 people through grants to thousands of projects across the UK. The fund has rebuilt parks, brought a new and helped bring a native species from the brink. In total it has awarded more than £156 million to projects nationwide.
Biffa Bees
In 2019 we launched a project to help assist the dwindling bee population. We planted an estimated 21,000 bulbs and over 11 million seeds at multiple Biffa locations, providing essential pollen and nectar for bees as well as a nesting place.
Biffa Butterflies
In partnership with the national charity Butterfly Conservation, we developed a 14 hectares wildflower habitat at Brookhurst Wood, a closed landfill site in West Sussex. This has created an environment that supports the repopulation of different species of butterflies, including the Grizzled Skipper which has been in decline.
