Our people and culture
Biffa’s culture and values shape everything we do. By changing the way people think about waste, we are inspiring businesses and households to change their behaviour too. We share our expertise with organisations in the private and public sectors to add value and help them to participate in the circular economy.

Our diverse team of over 11,000 people care about doing the right thing and, we strive to do right by our people. This means nothing is more important than their health, safety and wellbeing. It’s always our top priority and our Safer Together pact outlines our collective responsibility to work together to ensure the safety of all aspects of our work.

Supporting communities

Biffa has sites across the UK and our employees get involved in a range of local community initiatives.  Whether it’s fundraising for local projects, organising community litter-picks, or helping children to learn more about recycling, our employees support hundreds of projects or causes each year that give something positive back to the communities we serve.

Celebrating success 

One way that Biffa recognises the exceptional contribution of our employees is through our annual Diamond Awards. Employees are nominated by their peers for categories aligned to our values and our commitments around health & safety, sustainability and community. Shortlisted employees are invited to a black-tie awards ceremony, a highlight of the Biffa annual calendar, to celebrate their achievements.

Training and development 

We want all our employees to reach their potential and succeed, and we provide a range of learning and development opportunities to help them to achieve their goals. We help employees to be the best they can be in their current role, as well as supporting those that want to progress to the next level or build their skills and experience in another part of the business. 

At Biffa, we value our employees' feedback and regularly carry out surveys to understand their experiences and perspectives. Our employee engagement survey, known as Biffa Buzz, is conducted in collaboration with Best Companies. This survey helps us identify areas for improvement and enhance the overall work environment at Biffa.

In 2024, we were proud to receive a one-star accreditation from Best Companies, which means that our employees rate Biffa as a Very Good place to work. This recognition is testament to our commitment to creating a positive and supportive workplace.
